It is also very playable, if you set the game speed to 75 %. This is adjustable from 75 (which feels the most like real life to me) to 125 %, for those who enjoy football at the speed of light (the game lacks any breaking-the-sound-barrier-effects).As far as the realistic physics go, I can agree as long as the speed setting is set at the aforementioned level. AI is decent, with defenders doing a very good job in getting in the way of your shot. It will take some passing and\/or dribbling skills to find space. When playing with a keyboard, this is where the game has serious issues (spoiler alert: all the cons in this review are related to playing this game with a keyboard). The sprint button is <Esc>! (what the actual...) with the remaining control buttons being the logical A, S, D, and Q, I wonder what grudge the developers have against the W key. There is no way to change these controls. However, it is possible to play without sprinting (just disable it in the settings). This obviously takes the fun of taking on an opponent or even chase a long ball out of the game.Which brings me to the next issue: there is no way to control the pace and distance of long balls. With short passing, the game will roughly aim the pass at a player that is positioned in the direction your aiming at, making short passing tiki-taka play very managable if you keep an eye on where your opponents are. This aiming feature is not there for long balls: the direction is exactly the one in which the player is running and using the arrows to control the curve of the ball only makes up for so much. Meanwhile this also makes your player move about. As far as power and distance goes, holding the button down seems to work every now and then, but with the ball being released at random moments (and sometimes instantly) when you press the key, this remains guesswork. This lack of aiming also affects the shooting: while shots will always be powerfull enough to hit the target and holding the button never does anything (this one is actually consistant!), the direction of the shot will again be the same as the direction of running. Playing on a keyboard, this means aiming comes with 45 degree intervals, so there are many positions in and around the box from which it is impossible to get your shot on target. Like with the long passes, controlling the curve of the ball can only make up for so much. All goals I have scored were close range rebounds after the goalkeeper couldn't hold on to the ball. While there is clearly a lot of effort in this game, it looks good and the physics are very realistic, I cannot recommend this game for those who play with a keyboard. The controls are just too limited and this makes it annoying and boring very quickly.. With the newest update, 1.4.0, i finally feel comfortable giving this game a solid positive review. Before the update, i was not on the fence as to weather it was a good game or not. It still is and was a good game, with amazing support from the developer, who actually gives a damn about his product and the people who purchase it. However, the game felt a little lacking. I felt less control than i would have liked. I dont mind hard games and challenges, but i also dont want to feel cheated by the limitations of the simplicity of the game. That is where the beauty is in this one. You can tweak the settings to suit your gameplay style. The developer gives you the option to make this game your own. With each update, he doesnt remove options for the player, he just adds more and more.speaking of this most recent update, that is what got me to write the review. I saw the update note and thought it was going to be the much anticipated player editor. While that will be an amazing addition when it eventually comes, this update was a welcome surprise for me. Adding the sprint option to speed up gameplay and really let me use the open pitch and give me the ability to get around defenders was wonderful. Then also adding the "easy" dribbling control to go along with it, so that it was really my doing when i lost the ball to the defense by being sloppy with turbo or passing was the icing on the cake. I feel like i lose or win now based on my actions on the pitch. The first touch is noticeable, i dont feel as though the defense is stripping me of the ball nearly as often as before, because i can turn and run.Notes: -This is a hard game, easy to pick up and play (especially with friends) but difficult to master-This game almost requires a controller to play, but the controls are tight and responsive-There are still some improvements to be made, but the arrow is always pointing up as this is clearly a passion project that deserves the support of anyone who is interested. If you are a fan of the classic soccer\/futbol games of years past, this is a title you must pick up. With a developer that gives great support and is always updating and improving the game based on suggestions from players like you and I, This game feels fresh and like its improving on a successful formula. I can now proclaim it is a great game.. Yes I didn't put much time in but I really didn't want to! I remember old football games being more fun than this. The games also really didn't like me alt-tabbing out.......... This football game is the best football arcade after legendary Sensible Soccer, Goal, Kickoff. It brings back memories of those games, it's simple, gives a lot of fun, especially when played with a friend. Developer's dedication in improving the game, fast responses and altering newly added achievements (removing hard and grindy ones) after suggestions (in only 1 day!) is simply awesome.. Yes I didn't put much time in but I really didn't want to! I remember old football games being more fun than this. The games also really didn't like me alt-tabbing out.......... Where to start here...i'm old enough to have played Kick Off (Super Kick Off on the Master System but also KO2 on WinUAE) as well as Sensible Soccer in various versions and i wonder: Why does this get compared to those games? I bought this game quite a while ago, the updates are rare and the gameplay just isn't even up to Kick Off 2 levels, let alone Sensible Soccer where you had full control of your team, could set up formations and had to juggle players to avoid the dreaded red X and hoping to get a green mark which. This is not available here, the only thing you have is a basic formation option like 3-3-2, 4-4-2, 4-4-2 diamond, 5-3-2 and the likes but you can't chose your players. There are no substituions either and apparently every team just has 11 players with skills you never see. The gameplay is very basic on the likes as, as the store page correctly says Microprose Soccer or Tekhan Soccer, nothing fancy, you can't do headers or bicycle kicks. Shooting in high passes to the penalty arey results in some weird shots. If i had to make a comparison, and i really played a ton of football games (and my faves are still ISS Deluxe, Super Sidekicks 3, Action Soccer, the Nekketsu games on the NES and the few good FIFAs and PESs in between) this really reminds me of World Cup Italia '90 on the Mega Drive\/Genesis, though even there players at least could do bicycle kicks and you were able to control the goalie. The only gamemodes are friendly match, a season (ends after 1, no cups, nothing) and challenge which is some leaderboard stuff, you play against the CPU which gets better game after game until you lose, you get a score, that's it)The graphics are basic and they don't have the cuteness Sensible Soccer (or some of its clones like Football Glory\/Fussball Total from CroTeam) has nor does it look good. You also never see any crowd or the stadium, let alone gags like, again Football Glory had, like the streakers, or a dog chasing the refeere or things like that.Sound is sparse. You can change the controls at least but again, the buttons in the menus don't change if you use a gamepad. I changed the controls so shooting is X, Passing is A but while the buttons do their functions, i still get shown B for leaving a menus (which is now mapped on X) which is really amateur. Honestly, instead of getting this, get Sensible World of Soccer 96\/97 on gog for half the price, it's still way more awesome, has a manager mode, tons more teams, tons more playmodes, better gameplay, there's a reason why that game still gets season updates from the community.. Oldschool top down football (soccer) game inspired by the old classics from the 90s. If you liked those games (KO2\/Sensible Soccer) you will like this game. Nothing has quite captured the essence of those games until now. Scoring a goal in in the current generation of 3D football computer games (FIFA\/PES) never quite give you that feeling that you earned it. In Natural Soccer, as in the classics from the 90s, it can finally feel like you earned scoring that goal again. But a note of warning to all those that think that winning in games should be served up to them on a silver platter: it is not an easy game. You will battle the control of the ball as much as you battle the opposing team but in my humble opinion this is what really should be like. There are easier control options provided for those that really prefer this, but you will still have to earn that win all by yourself. And when you do win, you will want to feel that way again. All in all a Natural Soccer is a good football (soccer) game for those that like a bit of a challenge.. This game looks nice, considering it's inspired by the old-school helicopter view classics like sensible soccer. It is also very playable, if you set the game speed to 75 %.
